Affinity Health Group Otolaryngology

What is Audiology?

Audiologists are doctors of Audiology (AuD) trained in the hearing and balance sciences. They assess and treat adult, pediatric, and infant patients with disorders of the ear and hearing loss.

What Causes Hearing Loss?

  • Family history and genetics
  • Certain medications you may take
  • Disease, trauma, or ear infections
  • Exposure to excessively loud noise
  • The normal aging process

Hearing Evaluations

A complete hearing evaluation is an easy and quick test. Our Audiologist will ask questions about your medical and hearing history as well as make a complete visual examination of your eardrums and ear canals. In a specially-built room with earphones placed in your ears, you will listen to a series of soft tones in each ear and indicate every time you hear the signal.

Hearing Treatments

Depending on the results of your hearing evaluation, our Audiologist will make recommendations that may help you if you have a hearing problem. If your hearing problem needs medical or surgical treatment, they will refer you to one of our Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENTs) doctors.

Counseling and Rehabilitation

If you have hearing loss, our Audiologist will provide expert counseling before and after you obtain hearing aids which is vital to your success in hearing. Hearing aids provide an overall improved quality of life to people who need help with their hearing.

Services, in-office procedures, and surgeries include:

  • Evaluate and diagnose hearing loss and balance disorders
  • Prescribe, fit, and validate hearing aids and other hearing assistance technologies
  • Provide auditory training and listening skills improvement
  • Perform ear or hearing-related surgical monitoring
